Implications for your airline

The 2011 EU-ETS implications for your airline explained

Two scenarios need to be identified:

1) Your airline has been included in aviation ETS since last year and you have successfully fullfilled your 2010 reporting obligations.
Operators that have participated in Aviation ETS since last year should

Or

2) You have been included or approached by the completent authority for the first time and are requested to submit your reports and plans for 2011 initially.
If in doubt whether you are included as an operator read through the EU List (April 20, 2011) of aircraft operators to understand if you are impacted by the EU-ETS regulation.

New operators to ETS will need to consider the following steps:

  • You need to approach your competent authority - that is the regulatory body of the EU member state you have to report to
  • You need to submitted a Monitoring Concept and you need to have positive feedback from your competent authority
  • For the entire year 2011 you need to collect your flight and emissions data in accordance with your monitoring concept
  • You need to engage a verifier for your airline and schedule your onsite visit and your audit

Even if it might sound too early - right now is the time to get your verification process initiated.
